**NEW: Some Italian Museums Are Indeed Open on Mondays (Free Italy Travel Advice)**

Guidebook listings might lead you to believe that there's nothing to do on a Monday (lunedi) in Italy. It's true that many museums--particularly the national museums run by the state--close every Monday, but privately run museums provide ample alternatives for Italian art lovers. Save La Primavera and The Last Supper for another day; use your Monday to tour Florence's Brancacci Chapel or Venice's Peggy Guggenheim Collection. Here's a list of museums in Italy's major cities that remain aperto on Mondays:

FLORENCE

Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, the Duomo's cupola, Palazzo Vecchio, Cappella Brancacci, Palazzo Medici-Riccardi, Museo Bardini, Museo di Firenze Com'Era, Museo di Santa Maria Novella, Casa Buonarroti, Opera di Santa Croce, Campanile di Giotto, Casa di Dante,Museo Stibbert, Instituto e Museo di Storia di Scienza, Museo Horne, L'Ospedale degli Innocenti

MILAN

Chiesa Santa Maria Presso di San Satiro, Chiesa di San Lorenzo Maggiore, Chiesa di Sant'Ambrogio, Civica Galleria d'Arte Moderna, Duomo rooftop and crypt

NAPLES

Cappella San Severo, Castel dell'Ovo, Complesso Museale di Santa Chiara, Il Duomo, Museo Archeologico Nazionale, Castel Nuovo, Palazzo Reale, San Domenico Maggiore, San Lorenzo Maggiore, Santa Chiara

ROME

Vatican Museums, Domus Aurea, Galleria Doria Pamphili, Museo Nazionale di Palazzo Venezia, Museo del Palatino, Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Galleria dell'Accademia di San Luca, Museo delle Arti e Tradizioni Popolari, Museo Keats-Shelley, Museo Preistorico Etnografico L. Pigorini

VENICE
