Italy Travel Expert Kathy McCabe: Founder, Editor and Publisher of Dream of Italy Travel Newsletter
Kathy McCabe is the founder of the subscription
travel newsletter, Dream of Italy, The
Insider's Guide to Undiscovered Italy.
The 10-year-old newsletter was awarded "Best Consumer Subscription
Newsletter 2007" and has been recommended by USA TODAY, National
Geographic Traveler, U.S News & World Report
and BusinessWeek, among other major media outlets.
Through her newsletter and
media appearances (she was just quoted in USA TODAY twice in one week), this Italian travel expert has helped thousands of
travelers experience authentic Italy. She was recently voted one of the "12 Top Travel Twitter Personalities for 2012." She was also the editor for the recently released mobile app Rome: Dream of Italy. (A full Italy app and the first in a series of e-books will be released in summer 2012.)
McCabe's first-hand Italy reporting has included assisting in
the production of buffalo mozzarella in Campania, partaking in truffle
hunts in Piedmont and Umbria, soaking in magical hot springs in
Tuscany, watching open-air opera in Verona, visiting ancient caves in
Basilicata and reviewing
Italy's newest restaurants and hotels.
McCabe frequently contributes to the travel section of The Huffington Post. She commented on the travel and culture aspects of the 2006 Winter
Olympic Games in Torino for USA TODAY, Peter Greenberg's Travel Today,
Travel Hub Radio and ABC NEWS' World News This Morning.
She also appears regularly on online and radio travel programs such as How to Tour Italy, The Travel Show with
Steve Perillo and Rudy Maxa's World.
McCabe is a speaker and consultant on travel and publishing and
specializes in developing travel content for new media. She has spoken several times
at The
New York Times Travel Show, at the Smithsonian Museum in
Washington, DC and the Mequoda Summit (a publishing conference) in
Boston. She has consulted with private clients on launching new travel

As a travel writer, McCabe has written about everything from taking her
dog to luxury hotels to choosing a Caribbean cruise. Her articles have appeared in USA TODAY, Saveur,

The Travel Channel Online, AOL Travel, Fodor's Travel Publications, The Dallas Morning News,

McCabe began her career in journalism at ABC News where she was part of
an Emmy-Award winning investigative team linking money and politics
during the 1996 presidential election. She holds a M.A. in non-fiction
writing from Johns Hopkins University and a B.S.F.S. in European
Studies from Georgetown University. She is a graduate of the Stanford
University Publishing Program for Mid-Career Professionals.
